An AI-enhanced evolution of Reskinning Reality, turning a single volumetric capture into multiple photorealistic outcomes.
Reskinning Reality proved that a single volumetric capture could be reskinned into an entire digital collection, complete with realistic physics and textures, without a single physical sample. But the original pipeline was manual, technically complex, and required specialist 3D knowledge to operate. Reskinning Reality: AI Enhanced changes that, using AI to generate, not manually build, multiple photorealistic garment outcomes and believable digital humans from a single captured performance.
AI Enhanced pushes the pipeline further across three distinct areas: more photoreal digital humans, more automated 3D workflows, and more immersive real-time environments.
The project set out to advance the pipeline in three directions. More photoreal: pushing digital human likeness further, from facial precision to full-body representation, so the people within the pipeline are as convincing as the garments on them. More automated: exploring how AI and generative tools can reduce manual 3D workflows, enabling faster creative iteration without specialist technical knowledge. More immersive: extending the pipeline beyond 2D image-making and into real-time 3D environments, where garments and digital humans can exist spatially. Three directions, one pipeline.
Volumetric capture holds an extraordinary amount of structural data, but a convincing human likeness needs more than geometry.
The subtle details that make someone recognisably themselves are details a standard volumetric pipeline struggles to preserve. Reskinning Reality: AI Enhanced addresses this through a combination of structured directional lighting and a real-life selfie dataset, captured across different lighting conditions, environments and days, building a digital likeness from the unique anchors that make someone look like themselves. Not just a realistic face, the face of a specific person.
