Motion Capture Drives Virtual Avatars On Catwalk
The FIA travelled to Pinewood Studios to partner with Centroid and designer Charli Cohen, testing the potential uses of real-time motion capture to drive a digital model on a simulated catwalk.
Usually reserved for big-budget Hollywood movies and leading special effects production houses, cutting-edge motion capture technology allows for extremely accurate capture and modelling of the movement of actors.
This information is then used to drive digital models or animations in movies, bringing virtual characters to life on screen in ways that would not otherwise have been possible - this project explored applying the same techniques to the fashion industry and creating a virtual catwalk with digital avatars whose movement is directly driven by real models.
