Richard Nicoll / Disney
Disney’s collaboration with Richard Nicoll saw his catwalk show totally inspired by Tinkerbell. The collection, presented for the first time on the catwalk at London Fashion Week, used dreamy and pastel colours coupled with metallics and louche, washed fabrics. When mixed with tech details and elegant, lived-in tailoring, we were introduced to Richard’s interpretation of a modern day Tinkerbell – one that is edgy and current, while at the same time is inspired by the beautiful, classic artwork.
Star of the show was a standout technology dress, made in collaboration with leading London Fashion Laboratory Studio XO. Made from fibre optic fabric, activated by high intensity LED’s tailored within the dress, it created a magical digital pixie dust effect down the catwalk. This ultimate, modern take on Tinkerbell and her signature pixie dust was the pinnacle of this innovative and exciting collaboration between one of the UK’s most celebrated designers and one of Disney’s most-loved characters.
Head of Fashion Innovation Agency, Matthew Drinkwater, says:
“ This project is a stepping stone to designers genuinely using hi-tech materials within their collection as a matter of course, an integration that is seamless without standing out as the ‘jarring tech-piece’. We want to bring style and fashion to the wearables arena.”
